Application Process

Students should first choose a suitable institution and course, check the academic and language requirements, prepare the required documents and complete any entrance examinations if required. After receiving admission, students usually proceed with the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) process before applying for a student visa.

Japanese Language

Japanese-language requirements vary depending on the institution and the language of instruction. Students applying for Japanese-taught programs may need to demonstrate proficiency through tests such as JLPT or EJU. Some universities and graduate schools also offer programs taught in English.

Admission Requirements

For undergraduate university and junior college admission, students generally need to have completed 12 years of formal education or meet an officially recognized equivalent requirement. Academic, document and language requirements vary by institution and program.

Student Visa and Financial Requirements

International students generally need a Student status of residence and an appropriate visa. A Certificate of Eligibility is commonly arranged before the visa application. Students may also need to provide evidence that they can cover tuition fees and living expenses during their stay.

Part-Time Work

International students may work part-time only after receiving the required permission. Eligible students can generally work up to 28 hours per week and up to eight hours per day during long school holidays, subject to immigration rules and visa conditions.
